THE place to find the best draft beer in Myrtle Beach is definitely the Mellow Mushroom. Located behind the Palace Theatre near the Nascar Speed Park, the Mellow Mushroom is on 21st Avenue North.
Even on a weeknight in February, the Mellow Mushroom is pretty packed. The Myrtle Beach locals have embraced not only their insanely delicious pizza, but also their awesome beer collection.
We simply could not leave the Mushroom out of our Saturday Beer Trip this past weekend. A near-empty keg of Bell's Hopslam beckons us we start our "research" - seeking out the best beer bars in the Myrtle Beach area.
The Mushroom is our second stop and will be our best stop of the evening. After barely checking out what other beers are available, we quickly order our Hopslams, served cold, but not too cold in Chimay goblets. They are delicious. Others in our group order Woodchuck Cider and Bell's Porter. There is a cooler at the end of the bar with all sorts of bottled beer, too. In the glass case, offerings by Victory, Breckenridge, Delirium, Founders, Bell's, Stone and more.
Next comes the food – as a group, we order humus and pita triangles, a half-order of their homemade soft pretzels and a large house pizza. It's all great. This isn't a food review site, but I can tell you that the pizza is out-of-this-world and their pretzels (made from their pizza dough) are sublime. The bacon that they have on their pizza has a sweet, maple syrup taste that really complements the other delicious salty meat toppings.
Our bartender, Noah, is very beer-knowledgable and is extremely capable of engaging in our geeky beer talk. The service is fast and friendly.
As we sit there, we notice other beer afficiandos whom we have seen here before. So, if you are looking for the best craft beer on tap and want to know where the locals are coming to drink, it's here at the Mellow Mushroom.
